Items
addressed at the Oct 2011 Alpine S&T Standardization
Clinic:
• Clinic attendees got
an introduction to the Akja sled. Operating principles
and goals are the same but there are some conceptual
differences that make running the Akja is a very different
animal from the Cascade. All OTH attendees will get
operational exposure to the Akja at all future OTH training
sessions.
• Honest, constructive
and timely feedback between the instructor and the candidate is essential
to the program at the time an error is detected. Don't "sugar-coat" what
you have to say. Be truthful yet supportive.
Do not mislead the candidate in any way to preclude any
false impressions or hopes about their abilities and progression.
Don't delay the error detection/correction until the
"end of weekend" feedback session.
• Accurate annotation
of the candidate's green card is key to recording training
progress.
• Legible writing
on the cards is emphasized not only for the data input
person but also for the candidate.
• Timely return of
the OTH training cards to the "database keeper"
NLT end of day, Tuesday of the following week. The
keeper of the database is tasked with getting the updated
report back to the affected PD NLT Thursday following
the training weekend. Possible ways to get the card
information to the database keeper:
• • Personally hand the cards to the Region Director
or OTH coordinator in charge at the conclusion of the
weekend.
• • Mail via the Deutsche Post (takes usually one
day)
• • Scan the cards (front and back) and email the
file.
